The celebrity weave is one of the most popular hair extension choices – and for good reason. Adding both length and volume, you’ll notice more than a few celebrities rocking the weave as they grace the red carpet during award season. Yet, for some reason, you’ll notice that information on the process is hard to come by. Here at Maxwell Melia, we want our students to feel that they can ask questions at any time- including when they’re researching the best celebrity weave trainers in the UK. That’s why we’ve put together this quick FAQ for all your questions and queries regarding the Celebrity Weave. Want to know more, or interested in taking part in one of our training days? Just give us a call!

What’s a celebrity weave?

The celebrity weave works by creating a “track” with your natural hair. Once the track has been created, by linked small sections of hair together using small rings which are then clamped to squish the small sections together and ensure they don’t move. The weft of hair is then sewn into the sectioned-off hair, in order to securely fit the extensions as close to the scalp as possible, without harming the natural hair or scalp. A good Celebrity Weave can’t be seen when your hair is worn naturally and can be styled and shaped as normal- as long as you have purchased high-quality, natural, real hair.

Celebrity Weave Prices

The cost of Celebrity Weaves depends on a number of factors: Who is fitting the weave, what kind of hair you’re using and what kind of hair you have are the main considerations when pricing up your hair, as well as the Celebrity Weave brand you’re looking to use. The average cost of a Celebrity Weave can range between £100 and £2000 including fitting, styling, blending and cutting your weave, as well as the cost of the weave itself. Cheaper options usually involve trainees in the weave world, who will use cheaper wefts of hair, while the more expensive options will usually be from a stylist with years of experience and virgin, natural hair.

Celebrities with a Weave

Since celebrities regularly have to change their hairstyles to suit roles they’re playing, it’s a common sight to notice stars with weaves- especially for big events. Notable lovers of the Celebrity Weave include Beyoncé Knowles, Zendaya, Emelia Clarke, Selena Gomez and Jennifer Lopez- to name a few!

How to Remove a Celebrity Weave

While this is not a Celebrity Weave tutorial, removing your extensions is simple. Your hair extensions technician should be able to quickly and carefully snip the string used to sew the weft of hair to the sectioned-off hair They can then remove your Celebrity Weave by lifting the added hair away from your scalp, without causing any damage to the natural hair or scalp itself, before using their clamps to loosen the rings that hold the hair in place.

How Long Does a Celebrity Weave Take?

Adding a Celebrity Weave usually takes between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the thickness of your hair and the skill of your hair extension technician. Blending your natural hair into the extensions can add a few minutes, while colouring might add a few hours. Removing your hair extensions can take between 10 and 45 minutes.
